"Note: Until a couple of years ago, this area was Kapu (private). Even as a native Hawaiian, I was turned away. Only natural residents of the valley had access to this Jurassic Park-like valley. Consider yourself priviledged to view a part of Hawaii that most natives have never seen themselves. Halawa Valley is the site of one of the first Hawaiian settlements in the island chain. This valley is steeped in legends of spirits and supernatural occurrences. Stories of unexplicable happenings, such as the river changing course literally in a flash, with no signs of flood or any reasonable explanation, will keep you on your toes! Pick up at harbor/airport/lodge from 7.00-8.15am and take the east end shuttle/tour vehicle to The East Moloka'i Tour and Halawa Cultural Hike. Before arriving in Halawa Valley one gets a tour of the East end during the 1-2 hr drive to Molokai’s spectacular waterfalls and back to origin. The Halawa Cultural hike is not just a hike to the water falls, but full of historical information of the history of East Moloka'i Halawa valley. The hike is rated as an intermediate to advance hike, with a distance of 2.2 miles. It has two river crossings, and some rocky areas along the trails, with possible fallen trees after a storm. Hikers are advised to bring insect repellant, sunscreen, swim wear and a backpack to carry personal items. The shuttle/tour vehicle is air conditioned and will either be in a 7-8 pax van or a 15 pax van. "
